HEALTH

Kenya is listed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as endemic for yellow fever. Some airlines may require passengers to present a valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate before being allowed to board flights out of the country. If in doubt, check with your airline.

1. For all travellers coming directly from Europe to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, such that they did not cross/transit through an endemic country they will not need Yellow Fever Vaccination. (It is however recommended for travellers to have yellow fever vaccination for self protection against risk of exposure to the disease, although it is not mandatory – suggested by WHO).

2. For all travellers coming from or transiting through an endemic country, they will be required to present a Yellow Fever Vaccination card. This also applies to passengers in transit in airports where there is a risk of yellow fever transmission.

We strongly recommend that all travellers take comprehensive travel insurance that will cover any overseas medical costs before departure. Confirm that your insurance covers you for the whole time that you will be away and check what circumstances and activities are not included in your policy. Remember, regardless of how healthy and fit you are, if you can’t afford travel insurance, you can’t afford to travel.

Medical facilities are adequate in Nairobi. Public and private facilities will require either an up-front deposit for services, a guarantee of payment or confirmation of medical insurance before commencing treatment.
