Presenting the 8th Biennial

Conference of the Canadian Society for Ecological Economics (CANSEE)

“PROSPERITY FOR A SUSTAINABLE SOCIETY”

Tuesday October 20th – Thursday October 22nd 2009

Vancouver Convention Centre East, 999 Canada Place, Vancouver BC

Held in conjunction with:

Gaining Ground – Resilient Cities conference of the Centre for Urban Innovation and Smart Growth BC

Keynote Speakers:

  1. Paul Hawken, author of ”The Ecology of Commerce”, “Growing a Business” and “Blessed Unrest” and co-author (with Amory and Hunter Lovins) of “Natural Capitalism”
  2. Mark Jaccard, SFU ecological economist and IPCC  member, winner of the 2005 Donner Prize
  3. C.S. (Buzz) Holling, systems ecologist whose role in developing the concept of “resilience”was a key one, who originated the concept of “panarchy” and who was recently inducted into the Order of Canada for contributions to science generally,  including contributions to ecological economics.

Delegates are expected from all over the world. Papers will be presented and discussed in breakout sessions dealing with numerous themes including sustainable tourism, climate change, water and wastewater, food security and health etc.

This conference is being held concurrently and in collaboration with the Gaining Ground “Resilient Cities” conference, which itself is being co-organized by the Centre for Urban Innovation and Smart Growth BC. Two out of three plenary sessions will be shared.

CANSEE is the Canadian affiliate of the International Society for ecological Economics (ISEE).
